The Union Omaha players have been settling in nicely together in Nebraska as they enter their 5th season as a team. A few players were interviewed to get their thoughts about this.

“It’s already been 5 seasons?” inquired a puzzled Oon-Keow Maung, star wingback for the club, “wow...time does go by way too quickly…” When asked about his potential retirement in the near future, Maung answered very modestly. “Oh I’m not thinking about retiring at the moment,” he said with a little shake of the head and the slightest smile, “I know I’m one of the older ones here, so I feel like I should stay to guide the youngsters along their path so they know what to expect so it makes their path into the footballing world easier.”

Maung’s words certainly breathed through the air as manager 元気さん introduced to the public a brand new youth academy, appropriately named “The Nest”.

In a small press conference, 元気さん dedicated some time to speak about the academy.

“It is something the club has wanted for a long, long time,” said 元気さん, “and now the finances allowed us to realize it. It makes me so excited for the future of this football club. It’s not only a football academy, but also a schooling academy. I’m determined to not only prepare the youngsters for a great footballing career, but also open their minds to other interests they may have.”

Students will have the opportunity to apply once they turn 16 years old. Entry requirements include a written test about basic concepts in math, history, literature, and science as well as a football test (in the form of a written test as well as a trial). If students are accepted, they are recommended to stay on campus, but are not obligated to. There, they will be subjected to yearly reviews under the watchful eyes of 元気さん and his assistants. Potential first-team players will then be offered a trial contract, and if they impress, they will be offered a professional contract with the club. Prospective students who attended the press conference were asked how they felt about the grand opening.

“It’s wonderful to have this opportunity, especially in our hometown,” said one prospective student, “I’m excited to apply once I turn 16 next year!”

“Oh yeah, there will be no competition,” said another, rather proudly, “I already know Mr. 元気 wants to sign me, I’m just too good.” When asked about his evidence, he responded that he didn’t have to give any, as he knew it was true.

“I’m a little nervous about what could happen, but I know I’ve got it in me,” a girl told us, “I know the team is all boys, but I don’t think the rules say girls can’t play in the league! I’m going to work so hard so I can apply this year. I’ve already got my prep books!”

“Oh, umm...I dunno. I think it’s cool,” told us a rather quiet boy, “my parents told me it’d be a great opportunity, but I’m scared I won’t do well...but I guess we’ll see what happens, I dunno.”

It was very inspiring to see so many hopeful young faces at the conference. We’ll no doubt keep them in mind for the future so don’t be surprised if you hear about them soon! We’ll keep you updated on the academy as things develop. Have a great rest of your day.

Union Omaha midfielder Freedom Mbabazi has been found.
14 JULY 2021 - Written by: Chelsea Robinson

OMAHA, Neb. -- This evening, chief of police Todd Schmaderer spoke to the public regarding the case of Freedom Mbabazi.

“Earlier today, we were able to track down Mbabazi. We received an anonymous report that there was a strange man singing loudly stomping around near a cornfield by his home. Police went to attend to the situation, and it was discovered that the strange man was Mbabazi, who had been missing for more than a month. He apparently has no memory of who he was, and has a rather glassy look in his eyes. When he was asked any question at all, he only responds in cryptic almost nonsensical language. We are currently working with the medical staff as well as linguists from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to try and discover what is wrong with Mbabazi. So far, he looks to be in good physical health apart from his speech. As for the suspect behind his disappearance, their whereabouts are unknown. Please let us know if you have any information with regards to the suspect. We will update the public as we get more information." jdsflhdksflhjjhkajhsfdjhjhksadjkfjasdifuhn alidfu8w974o83752094857234859092iop
