Season 11 was one to forget for the Algarians as it went from bad, to worse, to a downright disaster. After picking up only 9 points from 30 games, accumulating a GD of -55, and going on a 6 game losing streak the board of directors considered sacking the manager outright! A weak squad, tactical inconsistency, and a drought of goals compounded misery for the team.
A surprise victory in extra time against AFC Beddingham in the League Cup was followed by a shock loss to Division 2 team KRIS AFC in the National Trophy. Other highlights were ties against LA VALETTE BOYS MALTA, Walsall Allstars, and Golden Orioles. Thankfully a high win bonus of 17m from sponsors ARS Softech, allowed us to collect 172m in sponsorship money.
Facilities Upgrades:
1) Stadium at 30K seats
2) Youth Academy upgraded to level 4
3) Training Centre to level 10 by season end.
Finances:
Net Loss will be about 8m after the last training centre upgrade is completed. Player Purchases (-181M), Wages (-63M), and Stadium Upgrades (-30M) were the biggest income consumers for Algaria. This was made up with Player Sales (+83M) and Ticket Sales (+26M) along with Sponsorship (+172M).
Transfers:
There has been high turnover the last 2 seasons as only 7 players remain from Season 6. Ali Zouaoui was sacked for 15M. 3rd choice WB Roch Wamytan was sold for 28M after failing to impress in Division 1, and 3rd choice CB Adjai Moussa was sold for 40M. Purchases focused on long-term youth assets. These included Nando Bodha (24 YR, CB, 3.5 learning) for 76M, Andleeb Abbas (20 YR, GK, 4.0 learning) for 32M, and Ali Sharif Al Emadi (17 YR, CB, 4.0 learning) for 25M. Only veteran Gustav Vasa was picked up to fill the gap in AM, which has been filled with loans for the previous 2 seasons.
Outlook and Goals for Season 12:
Manager has stated outright that Algaria FC will not look to be promoted next season, and will instead focus on infrastructure, training, and gaining experience for his core group of players. A semi-final or final League Cup appearance and getting to Round 7 of the National Trophy will be the goal. A playoff place of 2nd or 3rd in our division 2 section will also be the goal. Building 2500 additional seats, upgrading the academy to level 5, and building the training center to level 15 are also in planning. Transfers will focus on a backup CF for Moses Blah, a starting DM to replace Tabare Vazquez, and a new youth WM.
